There are times in your life when you know you have met some wonderful and truly special people. Stephen and Kristen are two of those people. Kristen is one of those warm, funny caring people that love to pay attention to detail and live each moment to it's fullest. The perfect compliment for her is Stephen. He is so in love with Kristen, anything she asked for, he graciously gave. It was wonderful watching two people so in tune to each other that each one knew what would make the other one happy. It is so rare to see such caring these days. I feel so privileged to have been a part of their wonderful day. Thank you Stephen and Kristen! I wish you many years of love together!!

It's not everyday two Brides come face to face. And it dosn't look like this one wanted to share. Seriously, it was all in fun as the two Brides tried to take each other out. The reception was at the BOB downtown Grand Rapids. The converted warehouse/factory was the perfect urban chic setting for just such an event.

Nick and Sandy's Wedding at Blue Dress Barn

Nick and Sandy started out as High School sweethearts and are now happily married to each other. I love it when true love culminates in such a manner. The Blue Dress Barn, near St. Joseph, was the perfect location for this shabby chic event. The barn has peeling paint, yet is full of cameos of vintage country giving it an inviting and fun personality. Who knew a barn could be so beautiful? Congratulations Nick and Sandy. I hope the rest of your lives together are as bright and beautiful as your wedding day was!

Baby Ducklings are here

Twelve baby ducklings have arrived and are waiting for your child to be photographed with. They are so cute and tiny!! This has got to be my favorite Kidz Dayz promotion ever! I spend all day building a "pond" in my camera room. Incredibly, it has real water, real rocks, several real plants, a real dock and best of all, real ducklings! The little baby Peking Ducks are a favorite! Cute, cuddly and lots of fun. The will dive under the water, stand on the dock, swim around in circles and sometimes climb the rocks. I don't know who has more fun, the kids or me.

Kidz Dayz is a bi-monthly promotion we have at the studio that involves a "theme set". Stetson Chapel Kalamazoo, MI and Rose Street Market/ wedding

What a beautiful day to have a wedding. And in such a beautiful spot. Matt and Amy prepared for the wedding at a location other then Stetson Chapel where there wedding was to take place in a few hours. As they were about to start their life together, they arrived at their wedding site...together. I think that is so symbolic, a couple enjoying one of the happiest days in their life together instead of apart from each other. Isn't that what it's all about anyway? The two of them, together. If I had my wedding to do over again, that is exactly what I would do. I would plan a romantic breakfast together, complete with champagne and strawberries in a secluded corner of an outdoor cafe' where we could experience the sun breaking over the horizon together Call me a hopeless romantic, but it's what my heart desires. Why should a wedding day be any different.

But back to Matt and Amy...It was pure pleasure to watch them walk up together, obviously so much in love and full of excitement for the events that were about to happen. Without stepping into the Chapel, we wandered the ground and created images that captured their feeling for one another as well as documented who they were on this day in their life. Here are a few of the pages from their album that captures the experience.

Rose Street Market - what a wonderful location for a celebration. Some of the cool aspects of Rose Street is the balcony that overlooks the event, the spotlight on the bride and groom for their first dance and the marque outside with a warm congratulations to the happy couple. What great touches!

Yahoo!!! I have just returned from the Professional Photographers of Michigan Annual Convention where I was awarded the trophy of one of the top seven photographer in the state. Each year this is determined by photographers submitting 4 prints to be judged anonymously by a panel of photographers, scored and the highest scores are awarded trophies. I cannot tell you how excited I was that I received this award. There are very many great photographers that enter this judging and many that I hold the highest respect for. So to be in their ranks is a humbling privilege. Now I can't wait until next year to enter again. What fun. I love it!!

I cannot believe Rebeca's wedding is only ten days away. It has been total chaos for the past two weeks and only proves to be elevated from this point on. Beck's final dress fitting was this morning. She looks so beautiful and elegant in her gown. It truly flatters her. Last week the three of us ran out to Lake Michigan to capture images for the guest book. We arrived just before the sun set and surprise, the clouds rolled in and it got dark fast!! I don't think the sun set at all, it just disappeared. We still got some awesome images. I thought I would share one with you so as not to spoil the surprise for all the guests on wedding day.

My life is a whirl right now. We are swamped with sessions at the studio, Rebeca's wedding is just over two weeks away, I am working 12 hour days, attending meetings, finalizing details for the wedding and just really stressed. This morning I opened my email to find a sweet and loving note from my husband telling me how much he loved me, he hopes I have a wonderful day and he will cherish spending the day with me. Attached to the email is a photo of roses (clip art, but who cares?). WOW. Did I choose the right guy? It is moments like this that I live for. It is moments like this worth sharing. To whomever reads this post: I hope your day is wonderful and you cherish being with the one you love.

David is awarded Photographer of the Year

Yahoo!!! David was awarded the Photographer of the Year status last night by Michigan Triangle Photographers Association last night at their annual banquet and meeting. It is an honor that is earned over the course of a year by entering prints in print competition (the total score of all your images), placing in the top three for "My Favorite Print" each month, writing articles for publication for the monthly newsletter and regularly attending meetings. Out of the 55 people who participated, David scored the highest! We are so proud of him! It just shows that even a handicap cannot stop David. Look out world, here comes Dave!!

The shore of Lake Michigan

It's Monday morning and I am sitting on the shore of Bay Harbor where I am attending Essentials for Women. It's a PPM event designed for women in photography. There are about 50 of us, all in different points in our businesses. I love the enthusiasm and creativity of everyone here and all the ideas that are being bounced around.

Most of all I love the quite and the waves softly lapping on the shore. The seagulls are crying, bringing me to a place I've been before. The soft highlights of the rising sun etch out a pencil thin edge to the surroundings creating a depth that that is not truly there.
As I wait for the day to blossom, I am reminded of the Glory of God and his creation. The massive work of art that is always in progress. continuing to swirl around me, soft and gentle. Caressing my life with it's touch.

Wow, now that's getting deep. Where did that come from? There is a side of me none of you have seen before. I'll try not to be so deep next time.

I have known David for many years through the Church youth group. I have always enjoyed his company and fun personality. David married his sweetheart of many years a couple of weeks ago and I think it obvious what a cute couple they make. Gwen is just as much fun as David and I'm sure they will live a long happy life together. Dave has a wonderful example to follow in his grandparents - they have been married 67 years! Dave and Gwen have a long way to go!!

I thought everyone would enjoy seeing all the fun we had on their wedding day. It was windy, as you can see. It picked up Gwen's veil a couple of times and took it away.

Last week we were in Grand Rapids to photograph the wedding of Stephanie and Nate. They took us downtown to the Gerald Ford Museum where we created so really fun photos. Congratulations Taylor on winning Miss Photogenic in the Applause Talent Dance Competition! We have seen Taylor here at Boyce every year since 2000 and she's always so sweet and charming. This year my mom was teaching her how to "smile with her eyes". We're looking forward to photographing her for next year's competition. Congratulations again, Taylor!

Extended Bunny Kidz Dayz

We've had a great time photographing our Easter Kidz Dayz set and the kids are all having a blast! We are now completely booked for our original dates and we're STILL getting phone calls wanting to book appointments. So we've decided to extend our special Kidz Dayz set! I went to the pet store yesterday and bought our bunnies! How cute! Growing up we used to have some bunnies as pets and I loved them so much. So now every year when we have bunnies I love to take care of them. Often times while we have our bunny special you might find me sitting at my desk doing my work with a bunny sitting in my lap cause I just love to hold them. This year we have three absolutely adorable bunnies!

From left to right we have Butterscotch, Jessica, and Charlie. To the best of my knowledge, Butterscotch and Charlie are longer haired dutch (which means their ears will stay smaller and strait up) and Jessica is a short haired lop (which means she'll have long floppy ears that fall around her face). They're all up for adoption (for free!) after saturday, but speak up now if you'd like one so we can make sure it's not adopted out to someone else. Anyone can adopt a bunny, you don't have to be photographed to adopt them. They're adorable and cuddly and Jessica especially loves to get attention. If you'd like to come in and see them, give us a call and let us know when you'd like to stop by. That way we can make sure we're not busy photographing while you're here to see them.

We still have a few appointments available on Thursday and Friday, and right now we have one appointment left for Saturday morning. So if you're thinking about this set, call and make your appointment before we're all booked up!

Hotel Del Coronado

How stunning! The Del Coronado is everything it is made out to be. Everywhere I turn it is breathtaking. We have been very busy with all the programing and social events. Sunday nights dinner was out on the lawn. The beach is large and very clean. Here are some shots of the grounds. I will post more later. Free time is short here.

Today was a travel day. We drove from Monterey to Hollywood. It was a long drive and almost all of my photos are from the car. The hardest part of taking pictures from the car is keeping bushes, trees, fences and signs out! The valley between the two mountain ranges is very fertile and full of farms, ranches and vineyards. The hillsides are bright green and all the leaves are coming out on the trees. I tried to find an orchard in bloom, but I guess this part of the state rows celery, broccoli, grapes and strawberries (or the best I could tell). The hills are full of the "California Happy Cows". The actor portrayals on TV have pretty dairy cows being the happy cow, but all I saw was black Angus, a beef cow. I don't know how happy they are, knowing their fate. Maybe that's why TV portrays them as dairy.

We stopped in Pismo Beach for lunch (I remember the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs is tunnelling to Pismo Beach and ends up in the Sahara or someplace like that). So I had to see Pismo Beach! To our surprise, we ran across Alex Bar-B-Que, voted the best restaurant in Pismo Beach. Of course we had to eat there. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the famous Alex French fries which were sprinkled with seasoning (kinda like Lawry's).

As we continued toward LA, we spotted the RV parks here for the retired people. Hey Mom and Dad, look at this, the perfect seaside park. All the RVs are lined up along a road just off the shoreline. Each space guaranteed an ocean view! I think you are missing out on the best view. Dad can go fishing, you can comb for shells and everyone will be happy!!!

Tomorrow we hit Hollywood!

Big Sur Highway

Dave and I explored the coast today, both up close and from the mountain top. The morning was spent walking the shore in Monterey to watch the waves come crashing in. We then drove to the local state park that is suppose to be a wildlife haven. We saw harbour seals, sea otters and we heard the sea lions, but couldn't find them. There were whales off the shore and all we could see was the spout when they blew out their air. I don't even know what kind of whales they were. The birds here are different too. There is a type of blue jay that is sapphire blue on top and white on the bottom. One bird looks like a small Robin with a red breast, but the top of the bird is black instead of brown and it has white spots on it's wings. We stopped at the Monarch butterfly sanctuary where the butterflies spend the winter. They had started to migrate north again, so there were not many left, but they were flying in the top of the very tall trees. I tried to take some photos of them, but they were too far away.

The afternoon was spent driving back down the Big Sur Highway looking for the "best shot". Sunset's are gorgeous and short. We flew from spot to spot trying to find the "light". What fun!! As soon as the sun set, that was it. Time to head back to the room.

Big Sur

Wow, what a day! Dave and I drove up to the Big Sur highway yesterday and drove through some of the most beautiful farm land I have ever seen!! Everything is geen and blooming. It is definately spring here, which gives me hope for Michigan.

We stopped at Morro Bay for lunch and enjoyed this little fishing town that had huge hints of being California's Saugatuck. There were shops all over the place!
The best part of the day was spent driving the Big Sur Highway up the coast. We were there untill there was no more light. How stunning!!! We will spend today exploring the coast again.

California here we come!

Dave and I flew into San Diego today, rented a car and headed north. We drove as far as Oxnard which is just north of Malibu. The traffic through LA was standing still, but Dave and I buzzed right through it. Because their were two of us, we were able to drive in the car pool lane. I have posted a photo from the highway, the beautiful flowers that are growing along the side of the highway, some of the houses on the hillside in Malibu (the parking lot was full along the beach and we could not get anywhere close) and the beautiful sunset on the Malibu beach.

Oh - did I mention it was 71 degrees today and the flowers are blooming and the air is fragrant with their sweet smell.

Bunnies!

Hey, just wanted to let everyone know that our Bunny special is coming up on March 13 & 14. We have live baby bunnies for your kids to have their picture taken with! The bunnies are always so adorable and I love taking care of them every year while they're here. Remember that all of the bunnies are available for adoption at no charge after the special is over. We usually have about three bunnies to chose from, so they can go pretty quick. I'll post some pictures as soon as we get the bunnies so you can see how adorable they are. I will probably be buying them at the begining of March, so keep an eye out for that post.

If you don't like bunnies, your child doesn't like bunnies, or if you or your child are allergic to animals, you don't have to have the bunnies in your portrait. The Easter Garden set we're using this year is filled with beautiful yellow and purple flowers and a brand new background! Perfect for an easter portrait. We also have two fake bunnies (pictured above) you could use if you still want the bunny look.

As always, we never harm the animals or treat them unkindly. They're well fed, cleaned often, and handled and loved daily.

I'm Back!!!

Hey everyone. I'm back! I have been remiss in posting partly because I've been busy through the Christmas Season and partly because I was in charge of the annual convention this year for Professional Photographers of Michigan. I am no longer having nightmares about trying to get speakers into thier program on time or making sure everyone gets to lunch when they are supose to. It's really amazing how much time and energy goes into planning an event.
The best part of the whole convention (besides seeing all the great friends I have in this business) was having the Presidency transferred to me at the annual banquet. I have worked very hard to get to this point and now I feel I am being rewarded for it. I have so much respect for every person in the association that I truly value the position.
My friends on the board of directors suprised me with cute rememberences for the night. They gave me a tamborine, bright plastic rings for my fingers and a crown!
Here are a couple photos from the night. My friend Loretta passed the Presidency down to me. This is the two of us at that moment. It is the first time in history that a woman President passed the PPM Presidency to another woman. The two of us made history together!
I felt so special that night. It's a feeling I wish for all of you to be able to experience sometime in your life. Really feeling special - you deserve it.

Kelly and Rick

I had so much fun today capturing the wedding memories of Kelly and Rick. They were married downtown at the Radisson among all their family and friends. They created a beautiful little alter area where they got married and the reception was in the rest of the room. The most fun was when we ran around the loby of the Radisson taking pictures with the interesting architecture. These are a few of my favorite images from tonight.
